This is VASSAR President William Greaf's designated state event to honor Robert Carter III who manumitted his slaves.

Robert Carter was the great emancipator of the 18th century, freeing 436 enslaved people, a step which enraged his family and many of his fellow planters.  His courage and deep conviction that slavery was not a Christian policy.   We will need our VASSAR Color Guard support if possible. At this time Charles Belfield will be appearing as Robert Carter, Tom Davenport will be representing the enslaved descendants, we will also have a representative from Christ Church and we are asking for wreath presentations from our chapters and DAR chapters.
