Meet Mrs. Elizabeth Bassette Harrison, wife of founding father Benjamin Harrison of Berkeley Plantation. Mrs. Harrison was known for her benevolence and piety. She managed their businesses, properties and raised their children, including future U.S President William Henry Harrison, while backing her husband’s decision to sign the Declaration of Independence and become Governor of Virginia.
