Compatriot Bob Wolfe passed on Tuesday, January 17th, aged 93 

Greetings Compatriots

Robert "Bob" C Wolfe's funeral will be held April 10 at 3:00 PM at  St. John Lutheran Church in Abingdon, VA. The family is inviting the Gen Wm Campbell Chapter of the SAR, Black's Fort Chapter of the DAR, and the OVTA to the funeral and is requesting our presence with the family. the scattering of some of the ashes and a Grave Marking will be held at a later date TBA

 

Robert C. “Bob” Wolfe, 93, passed away on January 17, 2023 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA following a brief illness.

Bob was a charter member of St. John Lutheran Church in Abingdon, VA. He was instrumental in the establishment of St. John and actively served the church in many ways over his lifetime.

Bob graduated from Liberty Hall High School in 1947 and then began a lifelong career of dairy farming on the family farm. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling and took up woodworking as a hobby, building beautiful furniture for family, friends and his church.

Bob was a long time member of the General Campbell Chapter of the Virginia Sons of the American Revolution and also served in the Color Guard. He was a member of the Overmountain Victory Trail Association where he participated in reenactment hikes. Bob was a member of the Mt. Rogers Appalachian Trail Club, and enjoyed hiking the trails in many states and, after retirement, worked on maintaining the trails for many years. He was also active in many farm and community organizations over the years.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Nettie Wolfe, sisters Marilyle Wright, Johnsy Cole and Dorothy ReMine. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joanna. His sons, Dan (Susan) Wolfe and Steve (Andrea) Wolfe of Kearney, NE. Six grandchildren, Katie (Richard) Kerley of Cleveland, TN, Neil (Saranya) Wolfe of Bangkok, Thailand, Emma Wolfe of Brooklyn, NY, Olivia (Brody) Hilgenkamp of Omaha, NE, Abby (Ryan) Beasley of Kearney, NE and Eli (Julia) Wolfe of Kearney, NE. Five great grandchildren, Jacob, Laurel and Claire Kerley, Judah Hilgenkamp and Laynie Beasley. Bob is also survived by many loving friends and extended family.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023, at 3:00 P. M. at St. John Lutheran Church in Abingdon, VA with Pastor Kent Peterson and Reverend Craig Wiley officiating. Visitation and a reception will follow the service.Those wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to St. John Lutheran Church, 807 E. Main St. Abingdon, VA 24210 or to a charity of your choice.
At a Later date TBA The Chapter will place a rectangular granite marker noting Bob as Compatriot of the SAR.
