It is with great sadness and respect that the Virginia SAR relay the passing of Compatriot Myron “Mike” Edwin Lyman, Sr.  He passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 25, 2023. He was 92 years old.

Mike was a dedicated compatriot who was an extraordinarily active participant in several lineage societies including the Sons of the American Revolution, the Virginia Society War of 1812, The Order of Founders and Patriots in America, The Order of Americans of Armorial Ancestry, The Society of Colonial Wars, The Society of Mayflower Descendants, The Society of the Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, The Society of Descendants of Colonial Clergy, and The Sons of Union Veterans.

 

He was noted for championing his revered book, Genealogical, Burial, and Service Data for Revolutionary Patriots Buried in Virginia, Burials of War of 1812 Veterans in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and co-edited the Encounters with the British in Virginia During the War of 1812. Bodies of works sought out by many SAR compatriots and genealogists alike to research their patriot ancestors.

Mike retired from the Army in 1979 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel with a Regular Army commission.  His decorations include the Combat Infantry Badge, Airborne Badge, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with cluster, Purple Heart with cluster, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with bronze and silver star, and Good conduct Medal and various service medals.

Mike will be missed.

His memorial service will be held this coming Saturday, November 4th at 11:00 AM at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock, VA. In lieu of flowers please make donations to: The Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Society, P. O. Box 716, Montross, VA 22520.
